Uxbridge Lions Club collects pull tabs from cans

Why do we only collect the tabs from cans?
Although the whole aluminum can is valuable, the tab is much cleaner and easier to collect in large quantities than whole cans. The tab of a standard soda can is made of high quality, high-grade  aluminum. By itself, it doesn’t mean much, but when you pull together, pop-tabs add up and become a valuable donation to our fund.  The tabs we collect go towards the purchase of a wheelchair for someone in need.

It takes 1,400 tabs to make a pound and each pound of tabs is worth about $0.60 (60 cents).

How many tabs does it take to get a wheelchair?

To buy a wheelchair that costs $6,000, it would take 9,500 pounds of tabs - or approximately 14 million tabs.  An extra 6,500 pounds equal to 10 million tabs are required to by a wheelchair that costs $10,000.

Uxbridge Lions Club collects used eyeglasses

Why do we collect eyeglasses?
For over 80 years, Lions Clubs International have been collecting eyeglasses and this is an official service activity program of since October, 1994.  The purpose of the eyeglasses collection program is to meet the demand for quality eyeglasses.

Since 1996, over 37 million pairs of eyeglasses have been collected and with donations coming from local organizations, optometrists, businesses, and individuals in the community, the number of eyeglasses donated continues to grow.

All types of eyeglasses are needed for reading or sunglasses whether they are prescription of non-prescription.  Each pair of glasses that are collected are cleaned, classified and distributed by Lions volunteers and other organizations providing an optical mission to developing countries.
